Peachtree City Accountant, Dale Geeslin, Addresses Financial Fraud
2011-01-08
PEACHTREE CITY, GA, January 08, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dale Geeslin, CPA, CFE, Managing Member of Geeslin Group LLC, Certified Public Accountants & Consultants in Peachtree City, GA, recently spoke at the Fayette County Bar Association meeting. He delivered a thought-provoking speech on the "Anatomy of Financial Fraud." Geeslin acknowledged that financial fraud has become a hot topic due to the highly publicized cases involving Enron, HealthSouth and WorldCom.

Dales Geeslin's experience as a small business CPA, afforded him the opportunity to share his insight into the three corners of the "Fraud Triangle' - Pressure, Perceived Opportunity and Rationalization.

Pressure is a situation that an individual believes can be addressed with an additional amount of money. Pressure can result from uncontrollable factors such as health issues or loss of a job. Pressure can also result from vices (i.e. substance abuse, gambling, etc.), high life style or unappreciated work-place efforts.

Rationalization is an internal justification of an act that would typically be deemed outside of social norms without the existence of undue pressure. An example is embezzlement of funds used for medical needs when health insurance benefits have been exhausted.

Perceived Opportunity is when an individual uses a position of trust to divert company funds for personal use. An example is a corporate controller entering invoices from fictitious vendors with payments going to the controller.

Dale Geeslin's extensive experience in unearthing fraud includes working with public and private companies. He has worked with both small and large companies. His 30 plus years of experience advising individuals, business owners and senior management, gave the Fayette County Bar Association a valuable opportunity to gain an expert understanding of this complex and relevant topic.
