What makes the Starry Night venerable is the painting creates a pleasurable and lively environment to look at. Although the features are exaggerated, it describes a scene that anyone can relate with and wish to be at. Van Gogh painted Starry Night while in an Asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889.

4) Vincent van Gogh - Crows over Wheatfield

Well it is again Vincent van Gogh taking the consecutive place with his estimable painting, Crows over Wheatfield. A usual construal of this painting is that it shows Van Gogh's state of mind with a dark, forbidding sky, the uncertainty of three paths going in different directions and the black crows overhead being signs of threatening.

Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life gets fifth place in the best selling list. This Austrian Symbolist Painter in this painting describes an important symbol almost in every culture. William-Adolphe Bouguereau was well renowned as both traditional and modern painter in his period. His Child Braiding a Crown painting takes the sixth place among the top ten best selling paintings list. Here in this painting the innocence of a girl child is portrayed which has made Norwegians to rate it among the top ten paintings list.

7) Vincent van Gogh - Cafe Terrace at Night

It is Vincent van Gogh for the third time. His Cafe Terrace at Night takes the seventh place in the best selling paintings list. His paintings include some of the world's best known, most popular and most expensive pieces. This painting signifies the exterior view of a night cafe terrace.

8) Vincent van Gogh - The bedroom in Arles

Norwegians are well again not enough with Vincent van Gogh. His extraordinary paintings speak that he truly deserve to get the recognition as the most popular and successful artist of his century. In this painting, The bedroom in Arles, he has portrayed a typical bedroom in the Arles city in the 19th century.

9) Albert Bierstadt - Bavarian Landscape
