Real Art Design Group Launches Giant, Web-Controlled Claw Game

Real Art Design Group built a giant claw game and anyone, anywhere can play it over the Internet. Players can get in line, choose an avatar, chat with other players, and are sent a prize when they win.

DAYTON, OH, January 13, 2011

Traditional cards, treats and corporate gifts have never really been Real Art Design Group's style when it comes to sending their clients a holiday greeting. This year was no exception. Real Art decided to say merry Christmas and happy 2011 to its clients with a giant, virtually controlled claw game.

Real Art mailed a giant metal token to all of their clients at the end of December, wishing them a happy holiday and inviting them to log on to http://www.thesantaclaw.com on January 3 to play the game and win one of Santa's cast-off gifts.
"It was one of those things that we started joking about over lunch one day, and it just kind of grew from there," said Chris Wire, owner of Real Art Design Group.

The project gives the Real Art team an opportunity to show off a variety of their talents and venture into a few new areas as well. From sketching original characters and building a site to fabricating the claw game and then hooking it up to the Web for everyone to play, the project was definitely a collaborative effort.

Created from 2,000 pounds of steel, 700 feet of wire and 1.5 electric wheelchairs, the actual claw game measures 17 feet x 8 feet x 12 feet. After signing in with Facebook, Twitter or an email account, players control The Claw using either their computer keyboard or mouse, and two cameras provide players with the angles they need to try to win gifts. Gifts (one per household) will then be mailed directly to the player.

Clients, friends of Real Art, or anyone from anywhere in the world can visit the site, read the story of The Claw, and then virtually play The Santa Claw game, which is located in Real Art's building at 520 East First Street in Dayton, Ohio.
