The opera was the last one completed by the great composer and is loosely based on a 13th century poem about a knight on a quest to find the Holy Grail.

Running from February 20th to March 12th 2011 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the shows in Barcelona look set to deliver a beautiful and passionate tale of morality and compassion.

"Parsifal, with its high symbolic and metaphysical contents, is the supreme expression of the idea of redemption that permeates the whole of Wagner's output," explained the organisers.

It has been nearly 100 years since the show was first staged at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, but attendees will surely agree that the story has not lost any of its elegance or power.

Tickets start from EUR9.50 (GBP7.80), with most productions beginning at 19:00 local time.

The performance will take place in the main room of the complex, with the show lasting about four hours and 55 minutes.
