PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, January 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) Holidaymakers staying in Prague hotels next month may have an opportunity to experience the city's Bohemian Carnival.
The event represents a continuation of Czech traditions dating back to medieval times, with residents of the capital donning allegorical costumes and taking part in spectacular masked processions.
It will run from Friday February 25th to Tuesday March 8th this year, starting with the opening party at the Clam-Gallas Palace, a famous baroque building located in the Old Town.
The programme for the festival is divided into four sections that include art shows, food demonstrations, evening parties and Candelion - Grand Defile, a busy street event with lanterns and masks.
Cuisine d'Alchimiste is the gastronomic aspect of the carnival, with participating restaurants across the city offering up some special treats for diners.
On February 27th, a party for children known as Amoretto is due to take place at Clam-Gallas, with workshops and a best mask competition.
March 5th will see the same venue host the Crystal Ball, an evening of baroque entertainment due to run from 19:30 to 02:00 local time.
Events will be individually priced, free or by invitation only, meaning travellers should check if they require a ticket before attending some of the high-profile features on the programme.
For more information on this event, visit the Bohemian Carnival website.
