HOUSTON, TX, January 17, 2011
Cornelius Nursery hosts a Make-It and Take-It Container Garden Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the 2233 S. Voss Road location. The workshop is free and includes hands-on instruction by nursery manager Eddie Russell."Bring your own container with a drainage hole or we will have an assortment of containers to purchase," he said. "We'll supply the work space, tools, complimentary Calloway's Premium Potting Soil and even an application of Calloway's Premium Plant Food."
Container samples will be available for participants to use for inspiration or as examples. Containers can be created for indoor or outdoor use in an unlimited array of colors and styles. Participants will be encouraged to use their own plants or containers. They will also have the option to purchase materials to use. Participants will receive expert instruction on selecting the best plants based on sun exposure requirements, plant growth habits and water needs as well as design principles for creating a container garden.
"Cornelius will showcase an assortment of plants that will make your container garden look professional," said Russell... "a thriller, a filler and a spiller." The thriller (the tall plant in the center) might be an exotic orchid; fillers include the colorful cyclamen or vividly hued crotons and the spiller is usually a trailing ivy."
The cost of the fresh plants to fill your container will be in the range of $25 - $50 depending on your selections and the size of your container.
Space is limited. To attend call 713-292-0898 to reserve a spot by Friday, Feb. 11. Participants should arrive at 9 am for coffee, to meet the Cornelius Nursery experts and to allow time to select any plants or containers they may need to purchase for their project.
