COLLEGE PARK, MD, January 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) The new luxury student housing complex, The Varsity, announced today that the Baltimore-based convenience store chain Royal Farms will open a store in the street level of the building.
Royal Farms has 136 stores in the mid-Atlantic. The new store in College Park, Md. will be the first to open in the area. The store will be open 24-hours a day and will offer take-out breakfast sandwiches, subs, wraps, and fresh brewed coffee. The store will also feature Royal Farms signature take-out chicken.
"We thought this was a great opportunity to have a presence on a college campus," said Ed Stronski, spokesperson for Royal Farms.
Both The Varsity and the Royal Farms store will open in August of 2011. In addition, Baltimore favorite, Looney's Pub will also open on the ground floor of The Varsity.
"We are happy to offer students, not only top-notch luxury housing," said Donnie Gross, president of Potomac Holdings Development, "but also retail stores and restaurants that make living at The Varsity especially convenient."
Construction is underway on the 901-bed property that is located adjacent to the University of Maryland campus on Baltimore Avenue. The complex will offer 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level, covered parking for retail customers and residents, and a fitness center, business center and game room for students.
The project, developed by Potomac Holdings Development and Campus Suites, is one of the largest new student housing projects in the country and will bring upscale, luxury housing to the College Park market, which currently is experiencing a student housing shortage.
The project was financed in conjunction with Bank of America, US Bank, and the University of Maryland Foundation.
