BATH, ENGLAND, January 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Tales of enchantment - of fairies, magic, the whimsical and the wonderful - come to life brilliantly in this unusual, engaging exhibition. The show embraces the wide variety of the fantastic and imaginative, from works of fairytale vibrancy and vivid colour (Stephanie Lambourne, At the Bottom of the Garden), to the extraordinary and surprising (Gordon Mitchell, Rise and Fall and Laptop), to mystical reflection (Stuart Buchanan, Solstice).
Scottish artist Catriona Campbell, particularly well known for her imagery of the circus and her fine portrayal of horses, offers a fascinating perspective of the 'fabulous'; while David Schofield and Gary Walton also make distinctive contributions to create a marvellous gallery of the imagination.
Carine Besse, Gallery Manager at Red Rag Modern Art Gallery, comments, "This show captures elements of the magical, fantastical world of the imagination - a world of dreams, enchanting stories and colourful characters. As our first show of the year, it sets a high standard for the exciting programme of exhibitions planned for 2011."
Stuart Buchanan was born in Glasgow in 1970 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Catriona Campbell was born in Dollar, Scotland in 1940, studied at the Glasgow School of Art 1957-61, taught art for many years and became a full time artist in 1981. She has won a number of awards and is a member of the Scottish Society of Women Artists (now Visual Arts Scotland) and the Paisley Art Institute. Gordon Mitchell was born in 1952, studied at the Edinburgh College of Art 1970-74 and, after a career in teaching, became a full time artist in 1989. He is a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Glasgow Institute and the Royal Scottish Academy. David Schofield was born in 1972, studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and has won several awards. Gary Walton was born in Worcester in 1962; taking up art again in his mature years, he has developed a distinctive personal style and exhibited widely.
The Magic & Fairy Tales Exhibition will run from Sunday, 20 February 2011 to 06 March 2011 at the Red Rag Modern Art Gallery, 24 Brock Street, Bath BA1 2LN.
