Ex-Marine Receives $2 Million for Motorcycle Accident Settlement

A 24-year-old former marine was enjoying life as a civilian when his life unexpectedly changed. Not even his five years of service could prepare the man for the pain, suffering and frustration that put his life on hold for over a year.

February 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) A 24-year-old former marine was enjoying life as a civilian when his life unexpectedly changed. Not even his five years of service could prepare the man for the pain, suffering and frustration that put his life on hold for over a year.

The service veteran was riding his bike when a commercial-vehicle driver didn't see him and made a left turn across the motorcyclist's lane. The rider had no time for an evasive maneuver so he laid his bike down and slid under the back-right tire of the vehicle.

Although the biker escaped with his life, he suffered catastrophic injuries. The man, who was putting his G.I. Bill to good use at a local community college, could not attend classes for the next 18 months while recovering. His entire life was put on hold while he endured a painful nightmare that happens to Carolina bikers all too often. If you are an injured biker, please consult a North Carolina motorcycle accident attorney to determine your legal rights.

The Common Injuries Bikers Sustain in an Accident

In motorcycle accidents such as the former marine's, the injuries tend to be severe and life-threatening. When a motorcyclist is forced to lay his bike down he is typically vulnerable to:

- Road rash, burns and scars
- Broken bones; hips, knees, elbows, wrists, shoulders and ribs often sustain trauma
- Head injuries and traumatic brain injuries (TBI)
- Paralysis
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Fatal injuries

Oftentimes, a stunned biker gets up after a motorcycle accident and is initially concerned more about his wrecked ride than his own body. However, the state of shock wears off and inflammation sets in, leaving the biker in incredible pain that will affect his life for weeks, months, years, or even a lifetime.

What is most troubling to a debilitated biker is that he has a family to support, but is in no shape to return to work. Health care isn't cheap, either: medical bills can add up to reach huge sums. If a motorcyclist finds himself in such an unfortunate situation, it is advised that he take action on one of the few things within his control and contact an experienced Charlotte motorcycle accident lawyer.
