Realityworks, Inc. Releases Two New Curricula for Use with the RealCare Baby Program
2011-02-01
EAU CLAIRE, WI, February 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) Realityworks, Inc., the leader in educational simulations, has expanded the curriculum components that come with the firm's award-winning RealCare Baby infant simulators. The program now includes the Healthy Choices: Relationships, Sexuality, and Family Planning curriculum and the Parenting: A Guide to Parenting Skills for Life curriculum in addition to its Basic Infant Care curriculum.

Combined with the hands-on simulation experience using the RealCare Baby infant simulator, these curricula provide lasting life lessons to students that can help reduce adolescent pregnancy and demonstrate the proper skills and the amount of care that parenting requires. RealCare Baby is a state-of-the-art computerized infant simulator that provides a realistic hands-on experience of caring for a newborn infant. The simulators are used in thousands of schools and organizations around the world.

Designed and developed based on principles of the Standards for Curriculum-Based Reproductive Health and HIV Education Programs by Judy Senderowitz and Douglas Kirby, the Healthy Choices curriculum contains 17 lessons within three units. While the curriculum emphasizes abstinence as the best decision for participants, it also includes information on contraceptives, HIV and sexually transmitted infections. The curriculum also addresses improving self esteem, handling peer pressure and using good communication skills.

The firm's new Parenting curriculum helps students understand child development and the role of a parent in an infants well being. Throughout its 12 lessons students learn about the stages of development, different parenting styles, a child's language development, the costs involved in raising a child, and other topics related to parenting infants and toddlers.

All lessons within the curricula are mapped to U.S. National Health Education standards and standards for Family and Consumer Science. The curricula come with comprehensive program components including teacher guides, Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations, pre and post assessments and student-centered activities including role playing, group discussions, and short-term projects.

"We're confident the new Parenting and Healthy Choices curricula, combined with our infant simulators, will create an impactful learning experience for our youth," says Timmothy Boettcher, President of Realityworks, Inc. "The goal of these new curricula in our RealCare program is to show students the importance of waiting to engage in sexual activity and to give them a real-world experience in the skills and demands needed to care for an infant, and will help students make decisions that will support their futures."
