Bright Nature Paintings by Vera L.P. Cauwenberghs at Agora Gallery

Vera L.P. Cauwenberghs paints and draws what we take for granted: animals, landscapes, daily objects. The bright colors send a message of unbeatable optimism. Her works are remedy against the gloomy messages we are flooded with.

NEW YORK, NY, February 04, 2011

Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature Belgian artist Vera L.P. Cauwenberghs in The Manifestation of Milieu. The exhibition is scheduled to run from February 4, 2011 through February 25, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, February 10, 2011).

About the Artist
Belgian artist Vera L.P. Cauwenberghs is a painter not taken in by gimmick or artifice. Her oeuvre is a testament to enduring artistic methods and a celebration of art in its purest state. A technical painter at heart, she does not use grids, projections, or other creative aids. Her approach is traditional and authentic, employing the best quality paints on handcrafted linen stretched over pine supports. There is a natural luster to her painting aided by a devoted attention to detail, lighting and color. Cauwenberghs' still-life paintings include areas that seem to project from the surface, as our eyes are led around the composition in a flurried dance. Her landscapes are more subdued, being peaceful and timeless in nature.

This is an artist who presents us with visions of European cosmopolitan tranquility. We observe couples relaxing in a cafe or strolling arm in arm along freshly swept, orderly streets, as the gleaming river drifts slowly by. "I try to take our human nature into account," explains Cauwenberghs. "My art reflects the positive side of what we are as humans."

About the Exhibition:
Sensitivity, intelligence and vision shine through the works on display, with the collection as a whole an example of creativity at its energetic best. The artists come from widely differing backgrounds and a range of countries, and as such each bring their own personal perspective on life and the world at large to their work. Yet they are united by a shared commitment to the importance of artistic development, and the real and lasting effect that art can have on those who see it.
