Israel Ministry of Tourism - The first ever Masada Run

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL, February 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) After 2000 tranquil years - Masada peak is regaining its status as a symbol of Jewish bravery. The first ever Masada run will launch on February 18 2011 - a 300 meters latitude run for the peak of Masada. Running enthusiasts from all over the world, including CEOs and business executives, diplomats and members of the Knesset will run up the rough route up the snake trail. This unique run will be part of the Ein Gedi run for families which will embark on February 19 from Ein Gedi spa - "Sea of spa".
Joggers in Israel have reason to rejoice: Until now they were limited to long distance running, now they can also run hights. Next month the first race in history the top of Masada will be launched, towering 450 meters above the Dead Sea. The unique racing events will be held in Ein Gedi in 2011 on the weekend of February 18-19 and will include the traditional half marathon, about 10 km walking race and a 2 km run for children.
The race to the top of Masada up the snake path, will bring together one of the greatest forts in history, the most important symbol of the strength of human spirit and devotion to uncompromising, with a fighting spirit and physical ability of modern runners. This is an initiative of the Tamar Regional Council, together with the Israel Nature and Parks authority to promote the culture of extreme sports in the Dead Sea. People who were invited to the Race to the top of Masada are especially competitive people, including professional runners, lovers of challenges, CEOs, business executives and Knesset members - all of them will compete allocate designated departure on Friday starting at 14:30 at Mount Masada.
The ace track consists of 2.5 km of climbing hard and soft dirt, rocky road and 750 steep stone steps to the summit of Masada, 300 m of an intense and difficult climb. 2011 is the first year of the of the event and the number of participants will be limited to 300 runners who will be divided to six groups of 50. Winning the competition would be reaching the top in the shortest time and would win a prize worth NIS 7500.
According to race organizers, they aim at making the race to the top of Masada a popular race with race teams from all over the country, including representatives of elite combat units, running groups, fitness clubs, families and individuals challenges enthusiasts, and of course, competitive athletes from around the world. Running to the top of Masada is designed to position Israel as one of the challenge racing leaders worldwide - just like the run to the top of Fuji, run Machu Picchu and running to the roof Eiffel, Pisa, and Empire Tower - State.
