LateRooms.com - The Women Who Taught Me To Fly to Open in Cairns

Lilla Benigno's new exhibition celebrates the role women have had in her life.

2011-02-17
CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, February 17, 2011 (Press-News.org) A new exhibition will be launched in Cairns next month as part of the city's International Women's Day 2011 celebrations.

The installation, entitled The Women Who Taught Me To Fly, is a collection of painted portraits depicting some of artist Lilla Benigno's female friends and family members.

Benigno spent ten years sleeping rough in Melbourne but came across thousands of females who helped her during times of struggle.

"I always had a woman alongside me," she explained in a statement. "This exhibition is for all the women who loved me and still love me unconditionally."

The launch will take place at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns on March 4th from 18:00 local time and all visitors are welcome.

Following the opening night, the exhibition will be available to view from 09:00 to 16:30 on weekdays and between 10:00 and 16:00 on weekends.

Admission is free and the run will come to an end on March 27th.

The Arts Centre is located in the Tropical North Queensland city's Botanic Gardens precinct, around four km north of the central business district.
