RALEIGH, NC, February 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) Bruce Clarke, president and CEO of CAI, Inc. (http://www.capital.org), a human resource management firm that helps organizations maximize employee engagement while minimizing employer liability, has announced the release of a podcast on the topic of the National Labor Relations Board's proposal for a new mandatory labor law poster in the workplace. In the podcast, Clarke discusses how the proposed poster, which would inform employees that they have the right to form a union, could discourage cooperative efforts between employees and employers. Listen to the podcast at http://bit.ly/eWYeKR.
QUOTES:
"The problem with the NLRB's proposed poster is that it encourages an adversarial response to workplace problems as the first course of action," said Clarke. "Communication should foster cooperation and teamwork, build trust and eliminate unnecessary tension between employers and employees."
DETAILS:
- The National Labor Relations Board enforces the nation's laws regulating labor unions and collective bargaining. Like a court of appeals, it decides cases and conflicts from the local NLRB regions around the nation.
- The proposed poster by the NLRB would let workers know that they have the right to form a union, seek a union for help on workplace matters, discuss conditions of employment with co-workers and strike.
- Almost all private sector employees would be covered by this rule. Industries such as airlines and railroads would be exempt.
- The NLRB is taking comments on the proposed notice until Tuesday, Feb. 22.
- Employers can visit http://www.capital.org/nlrb to learn more or comment on the Act.
