Bencardino Excavating Completes Work at University of Pennsylvania Law School

Bucks County Excavators Work on University of Pennsylvania Law School's Golkin Hall

2011-03-03
BENSALEM, PA, March 03, 2011 (Press-News.org) Bencardino Excavating, a Bucks County, Pa., excavation company, recently completed work on the new Golkin Hall at the University of Pennsylvania's Law School in Philadelphia.

The excavation crew worked on the foundation underslab and excavation of sanitary and storm piping. A.T. Chadwick Company, Inc. of Bensalem, Pa., contracted Bencardino Excavating to work on the project and Bill Illg served as the excavation foreman on the project.

"University of Pennsylvania is one of the nation's most prestigious universities. Our company is proud to work as a trusted partner to the school, helping to continue the legacy of this educational institution," said Lou Bencardino, owner of Bencardino Excavating.

The new building features a state-of-the-art court room, 350-seat auditorium and roof-top garden. It includes a two-story entry hall with views of the Law School courtyard. Kennedy & Violich Architecture, Ltd. of Boston served as the architectural designers on the project, the last of a four-building site which connects Silverman and Tanenbaum Halls. The project maintained the historical integrity of surrounding townhomes on Samson Street in the West Philadelphia area.

The 40,000-square-foot Golkin Hall was part of a multi-year project focused on renovating three of PennLaw's interconnected buildings, including the Biddle Library and the Law School's classrooms. Golkin Hall is also an LEED-certifiable building. This certification marks the building as an internationally recognized green structure. All together, the project cost approximately $33.5 million dollars.
