DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, September 08, 2010 (Press-News.org) One of Germany's biggest heavy metal bands are set to arrive in Dusseldorf later this year.
Blind Guardian will play the city's Philipshalle venue on Saturday October 9th as they tour around Europe in support of recent album At the Edge of Time.
Dusseldorf hotel bookings are sue to see a surge in demand before the gig, as the group have been a leading light of the metal scene in Germany since they formed in the 1980s.
Usually associated with the sub-genres of speed metal and power metal, Blind Guardian emerged from the city of Krefeld - a short drive north-west of Dusseldorf - and released their debut album Battalions of Fear in 1988.
Although that record was regarded as a relatively straightforward collection of speed metal songs, the band developed their sound over later releases and began to experiment with orchestral material, as well as more melodic arrangements, alongside the traditional heavy guitars.
Many of the songs written by guitarist Andre Olbrich and lead singer Hansi Kursch, Blind Guardian's main creative partnership, are inspired by the work of fantasy writer JRR Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
In 1998 the group unveiled a concept album, Nightfall in Middle-Earth, based on Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
At the Edge of Time, which was released in July this year, also features songs inspired by English fantasy author Michael Moorcock, Norse mythology and John Milton's Paradise Lost.
According to the band's website, the support acts for Blind Guardian's concert at the Philipshalle will be Van Canto and Steelwing.
Fans of the group can buy tickets online for EUR39.65 (GBP33.10) and doors are due to open at 18:30 local time, with the music getting underway at 20:00.

Teenagers and Their Families Need to Consider Auto Insurance Options
2010-09-08
Companies that issue auto insurance policies determine their rates by analyzing the amount of risk that is posed by a driver -- the lower the risk, the lower the premium rate. Unfortunately for some motorists, certain unchangeable factors flag them as "high risk" and inhibit their ability to enjoy the lowest premiums offered by an insurance carrier. Many teenagers encounter this harsh reality upon setting out to find a first policy. Young drivers have minimal experience behind the wheel, and it will take some comparison shopping to find an insurer that will take on such ...
