DOYLESTOWN, PA, March 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) Robert Szwajkos, a partner with the commercial law section of Bucks County law firm Curtin & Heefner LLP, will be a panelist at a continuing legal education (CLE) program titled "Landlord-Tenant Law: Leases, Evictions, Litigation and Settlements" on April 5, 2011, to be held in Allentown, Pa., at the Wingate by Wyndham on Hamilton Boulevard. The CLE will be hosted by Sterling Education Services, Inc. Szwajkos will address the assumption - rejection procedure and the automatic stay; limitations on the rights of commercial tenants and landlords in Chapter 11 and 7 proceedings; limitation of the automatic stay for residential tenants in bankruptcy cases; and collections, judgments and discernments. In addition to attorneys, this educational opportunity is recommended for property managers, developers, building owners, leasing agents, landlords and tenants and other real estate professionals.
An experienced litigator and transactions attorney, Szwajkos focuses his practice on commercial law, including creditors' rights, bankruptcy, business transactions and commercial litigation. He is a past Clerk of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and was a founding member of the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts Clerks Association. Szwajkos has served as the senior attorney for the Trustees of the Penn Central Transportation Co. and the subsequent reorganized company. He has served as a Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 Trustee and has represented creditors, debtors and creditor committees in bankruptcy cases. He is a member of the Bankruptcy Court Mediation Panel.
An active member of the legal and local communities, Szwajkos sits on the Board of Directors of the Bucks County Credit Counseling Center and is a board member of the pro bono Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Program of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference. He has served on the Rules Committee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania since 1982. Szwajkos was a member of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, where he served as chairperson in 2003 and 2004. He is also the treasurer of the Jagiellonian Law Society of Polish Attorneys and a past director of FACT (HIV/AIDS) Bucks County, Pennsylvania Service Agency.
Szwajkos is a frequent lecturer on commercial law, bankruptcy and related topics. In addition to presenting seminars for U.S.-based organizations, Szwajkos has lectured at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, and served as an advisor to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Poland. Thomson Reuters has recognized Szwajkos as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer each year since 2004.
