MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, March 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) Legendary soccer club The New York Cosmos is re-launching for 2011 in spectacular style. The rejuvenation of the world's most glamorous football club will not just be a sporting event: thanks to Umbro's sharply-tailored re-design of the classic New York Cosmos shirt, the team's return is placed firmly on the fashion calendar.
Umbro, the leading kit-supplier for the Cosmos, will be in inspiring company. During its existence from 1971-1985, The New York Cosmos was glamorous, fierce and full of swagger: the club's kit and attitude was as famous as the skills of its revered players such as Pele and Giorgio Chinaglia.
In addition to stellar performances on-pitch - which won the club five national championships - the Cosmos uniform, changed several times a season, was also the stuff of legend. With Umbro adding its stylish take on English tailoring to this cosmopolitan cocktail, the 2011 kit is set to join the halls of fame.
The Umbro design team's key influence for the modern-day New York Cosmos collection was the 1977 Cosmos kit, worn by Pele in his final season as a professional. The influence of this legendary shirt can be seen in the new home kit, the centerpiece of the collection: a white tailored silhouette, enlivened by a unique green and yellow collar to combine high-performance and a neat finish.
The wider range has taken key attributes from the original Cosmos uniform and placed them onto classic Umbro sportswear silhouettes, adding a street edge to the off-field looks. The Vintage 1976-77 white shirt features Pele's famous number 10 on the chest, arm and back, a v-shaped neck and a smart green shirt collar. The running diamond taping, an Umbro icon from the 1970s, has been referenced on the shoulders of the Ringer Tee. A selection of performance equipment and style accessories in bold colour blocks mirroring the colours of The New York Cosmos crest complete the collection.
Thankfully, there's no need to wait to get your hands on it. The Spring/Summer 2011 New York Cosmos shirt range will be available from March 2011 from Kitbag.com, giving you the chance to meld New York attitude and English tailored style.
As well as the New York Cosmos, Kitbag.com stock a wide range of football shirts and kits from international and club teams around the world.
