WESLEY CHAPEL, FL, March 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) Mark Finstein has been in the carpet cleaning business long enough to remember when most of the calls came form his listing in the telephone directory and periodic mailings to past clients. That was 1995.
Today, Finstein still mails to customers, but he gets most of his new business from the Internet, using Google pay-per-click advertising and his company website."I get more carpet and tile cleaning clients from the Internet than all of the other kinds of advertising I do put together," said Finstein. As a result, Finstein regarded his decision to revamp his company's site as a serious one. "The site is the front door of my business online, so I absolutely want it to be perfect," said Finstein.
Among the new features added in a redesign done by Gecko Media, a St Pete-based web design firm, are a better blog, geographically targeted pages and a self-serve quote tool.
"I learned that blogging regularly and getting the names of cities we serve into post titles really improved the findability of my site," said Finstein. He credits the insight to discussions at the Surfaces Conference, a national meeting for professionals in the floor cleaning business. Finstein insists small businesses should blog with geographic terms in post titles if they want to get more local traffic and more inquiries from searchers who use Google, Bing, or Yahoo.
We write blog posts on our cleaning blog that help the person who has a spilled ink on a leather couch learn what to do to clean it, said Finstein. "It might cost us a few calls from people who end up doing it themselves, but we thing that's more than offset by the number who decide they want to have the job done professionally."
The cleaning business is local, so Finstein indicated creating pages devoted to each market is part of the plan to get more traffic to his site. "The new site has city pages created in response to the way people shop for the type of services we offer," Finstein said. "Our customers tend to search for us with terms like "Carpet Cleaning Wesley Chapel", "Tile Cleaning Tampa" and "Wood Floor Cleaning Tampa" and so having city pages should make us more visible."
Clients can enter the details for their carpet- or tile-cleaning job and receive an instant quote from an application form that calculates the specific job, along with travel time, and prices the project accordingly. Online booking get a ten percent discount.
Finstein is planning a promotional video that may fit well on the blog or perhaps a dedicated YouTube channel. The entire site will be integrated with Facebook so that people can post comments and feedback.
