HUA HIN, THAILAND, March 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) Visitors to Hua Hin will be able to participate in the annual Songkran Festival next month.
The event will get underway on April 13th as part of the Thai New Year celebrations.
It originally began as a way of showing respect to elders by sprinkling water over their hands.
While this tradition is still practised, the Songkran Festival has turned into a water fight for all ages.
According to Chris Lee, trade marketing manager for UK and Ireland at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, it is easy for visitors to play a part in the festivities.
"Just go out on to the streets during the Thai New Year celebrations and you will get involved, as the national water fight doesn't take any prisoners," he stated.
Visitors to Hua Hin at this time of year should prepare for a soaking if they decide they want to participate in the celebrations during Songkran.
It is therefore advisable to keep valuables either locked away or protected with plastic bags.
Festivalgoers searching for Hua Hin hotels can visit AsiaRooms.com to check out a range of accommodation, including the Dusit Thani Hua Hin, which is a self-contained resort with an unspoiled beachfront location.
