One Way Furniture Shifts Toward Quality Content After Google Panda Update

Family-owned and operated 14-year old company sees fifty-percent decline in organic rankings due to Panda Google Update.

2011-03-16
MELVILLE, NY, March 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) One Way Furniture, Inc. (www.onewayfurniture.com), an online furniture superstore founded in 1997, survived the Dot Com Crash of 1999 and the housing collapse of 2008. Will it survive the Panda Google Update of 2011? The Panda Google Update is the latest change in the search engine's algorithm and is part of its ongoing efforts to provide users with the best quality results for any given query.

An authorized dealer for more than 200 brand-name furniture manufacturers including Riverside, Pulaski, and Hillsdale Furniture, One Way Furniture first established its online store presence in 2001. This expansion from a brick-and-mortar store made One Way Furniture an industry forerunner, as it was one of the first furniture dealers to sell its furniture online. Since then the company has furnished over one million homes across the United States and Canada offering quality furniture and great value to their customers. Some of their top selling categories include bedroom sets, dining rooms, and bar stools.

In the past decade the company has built a substantial online business following Google's best practices for website owners. OneWayFurniture.com is not a link farm, and the company has never employed "black hat" techniques to increase its organic rankings. Instead the company features detailed furniture descriptions provided by each manufacturer and rewrites much of the descriptive copy found on the website as long as it does not violate their manufacturer's policies.

"We are definitely concerned by the drop in rankings since the Panda Google Update of February 24, 2011. One Way Furniture has always taken enormous pride in servicing our customers and providing brand-name quality furniture and great value to our customers," said Mitchell Lieberman, founder and CEO of One Way Furniture. "We understand that organic rankings are never guaranteed, and we are certainly grateful for Google, as we have built a business of 20 employees with years of success in Google. However, erasing over a decade of hard work with a fifty-percent drop in a single day is a significant blow to a company that has followed Google's best practices. If we had knowledge that providing additional unique content was so important we could have reacted in a timely manner. Although Google has set up a blog to review legitimate companies that were adversely affected by its Panda algorithm update, we are not sitting still in hopes that a magic wand will restore our lost rankings." Lieberman continued. "We are working harder than ever to ensure that our website complies with Google's latest recommended practices. We will continue to enhance our site to add additional quality content that is informative, unique, and meaningful to our customers. All our manufacturers that require we use their product descriptions will be asked to change their rules or face the possibility of being dropped from our site. We continue to monitor our daily traffic and hope that Matt Cutts and the team at Google have some compassion for a voice that stands on behalf of legitimate small businesses retailers across the U.S that was impacted by the Panda Update."

Google's new algorithm appears to reward e-commerce websites that abandon manufacturers' descriptions and write their unique content. Knowing this, One Way Furniture will strictly utilize its own original copy detailing each product in place of manufacturer-provided descriptions.

One Way Furniture is ranked in the top 20 Home Furnishings Retailers by Furniture Today and for the past five years has been featured in the Inc 500 as well as the Internet Retailer Top 500. The company was recognized by Internet Retailer as the 35th fastest growing company in the U.S. in 2006. One Way Furniture also makes charitable contributions annually to several charities across the world, including Feed the Children. For additional information visit http://www.onewayfurniture.com.
