It's not just School Lunches that Need to Change :Author reminds parents about the big picture

As kids go back to school it's important to remember the big picture- giving support and communication, not just healthy lunches that will help your child succeed.

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, September 09, 2010

With kids starting a new school year the subject of juvenile health is always a hot topic, as the many stories on school lunches illustrate. Having a healthy lunch is just one part of ensuring their health, but giving their child emotional and loving support is vitally important for their success.

Author Beate Epp, who is currently on a Western Canadian book tour, has been speaking to parents and children about living a complete healthy lifestyle, one that her novel's main character Kiran experiences in her book The Magical Horses.

"In my work counseling families I often need to remind parents to look at the whole picture when it comes to new situations for their children. Children can be very insecure but also very quiet when it comes to dealing with difficult issues. Taking the time to have good communication, active listening, having them eat healthy, and encouraging active living shouldn't be a chore. It should be an adventure enjoyed by the whole family," says Epp, who is a Holistic therapist and nutritionist in Saskatchewan.

Epp's book is gauged for boys and girls ages 9-12, and encourages them to embrace natural and healthy living through her fictitious story. She incorporates recipes into the book which fortify the themes on the journey to a healthy life.

Beate Epp is currently on tour with The Magical Horses, presenting her artwork and activities at Chapters and Indigo Bookstores in Western Canada.

She will be in Vancouver September 8-11th and Victoria September 12-14th
