Futuristic Revelations in Andreas Hessman's Artworks at Agora Gallery

Andreas Hessman is a contemporary artist who gets his inspiration from the evolution of life, from plants to native cultures and American Natives, and the birth of planets and galaxies, the building blocks of the universe.

2011-03-25
NEW YORK, NY, March 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature a Swedish artist, Andreas Hessman, in Degrees of Abstraction. The exhibition is scheduled to run from March 25, 2011 through April 15, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, March 31, 2011).

About the Artist
Andreas Hessman paints medium-sized acrylic works on canvas inspired by natural phenomenon such as evolution, indigenous life, vegetation and outer space. His works are dominated by red and chrome with platinum accents, while geometric and organic shapes punctuate the foreground against somber backdrops suggestive of a dimly lit urban industrial scene or a snapshot of an explosive night sky. Hessman's canvas confronts the viewer with an immersive environment, at once foreign and familiar. His provocative compositions use the interplay of symbol, pattern and texture to probe emotional and psychic spaces. Wielding a strong and equivocal set of symbols - starbursts, comets, splotches, explosions, cylinders and squares take the stage amidst hydraulic action and glittering atmospheric dust - his work provides no easy answers. A disciple of universal mystery, the paintings of Andreas Hessman pays homage to enigma and intergalactic wisdom.

Andreas Hessman was born 1988 in Halmstad, Sweden, the son of artist Eva Gotemark Bengtsson and relative of illusionist Gunnar Gotemark.

Exhibition Dates: March 25, 2011 - April 15, 2011
