Ray Miller, Global Business Development Manager in Biomaterials and Specialties, at DuPont Applied BioSciences, to give a presentation at GTC's 2nd Annual Biobased Chemicals - Inception to Market Conference on July 7-8, 2011 in San Francisco, CA.

2011-03-25
MONROVIA, CA, March 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) Ray Miller, Global Business Development Manager in Biomaterials and Specialties, at DuPont Applied BioSciences, to give a presentation at GTC's 2nd Annual Biobased Chemicals - Inception to Market Conference on July 7-8, 2011 in San Francisco, CA. Ray Miller will give a presentation on "Launching the Bio-PDO Platform - The Sorona Study". DuPont is rapidly evolving from a 200+ year old chemicals and materials company to an industrial biotechnology powerhouse. Dr. Miller will briefly explain the driving forces behind this transformation and outline DuPont's approach to the development and commercialization of sustainable materials and energy offerings. He will focus heavily on the development and commercial introduction of the Sorona polymer business, and the subsequent development of bio-sourced 1,3 propanediol (Bio-PDO ) as well as progress being made to broaden the offerings of value-added specialties based on this initial platform molecule. The presentation will explain the necessity of understanding the markets and what they require to be able to create market pull for new materials vs. incumbents from petroleum sources. Ray will conclude with some suggestions on the role of governments in helping businesses achieve a fundamental shift away from petroleum dependency in our materials and fuels industries.

Sorona Triexta, which is the first DuPont polymer platform to use a bio-based raw material, is now DuPont's leading business in the Applied Bio Sciences platform. In June, 2010, Mr. Miller was appointed to his present position, in which he is responsible for leading the development of the next generation of bio-based sustainable businesses. Mr. Miller was part of the team that received the 2003 EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge award for "Microbial Production of 1,3-propanediol". He has also been recognized by DuPont with 5 Corporate Excellence awards, including the prestigious Bolton-Carothers for the development of Sorona .

The 2nd Annual Biobased Chemicals - Inception to Market Conference is filled with essential, timely, and informed presentations addressing new technologies, investment trends, and updates on the business of the evolving industry. Also presenting at the Biobased Chemicals Conference are prestigious organizations including LS9, Dupont, DSM, Lignol, Myriant Technologies, Genomatica, Amyris Biotechnologies, Genencor, Solazyme, and other leaders in the industry.
