SINGAPORE, March 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) A musical version of hit Singaporean movie 881 opens at the city's Esplanade Theatre next month.
The production tells the story of two childhood friends who are desperate to star in the colourful street shows held to celebrate the Hungry Ghost Festival. However, their dreams are put on hold by the arrival of another pair of talented performers, the Angmoh Durian sisters.
Royston Tan's 2007 film has been adapted for the stage by award-winning director and playwright Goh Boon Teck, who has tried to ensure the piece loses none of the original's sense of fun and entertainment.
The show runs from April 15th to May 1st 2011 and is scheduled to last for around two and a half hours.
Evening performances take place at 20:00 local time and matinees start at 15:00.
Passes are available for between HK$40 and HK$100 (GBP3 and GBP8) and the Esplanade Theatre has warned demand is likely to be high.
"Get ready to fight for a ticket for dynamite-charged musical extravaganza 881," it said.
Culture vultures thinking of booking Singapore hotels and checking out the popular musical can head to AsiaRooms.com and choose from the likes of the Raffles Hotel Singapore, which is less than ten minutes' walk from the venue.

New drugs that specifically target the mutated genes responsible for cancer growth have shown great success in extending the lives of patients, with far fewer side effects than conventional anti-cancer therapies. Unfortunately, many patients become resistant to these drugs due to secondary mutations.
Now, a multidisciplinary team of researchers at UCLA has developed a "roadmap" of the complex signaling processes involved in cancer that could lead to new methods for diagnosing and overcoming such drug resistance.

The findings offer potential new targets for novel anti-HIV drugs that may not lead as quickly to viral resistance ...
