BEVERLY HILLS, CA, April 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) Mike Smith, current L.A. Clippers color analyst on Prime Ticket/Fox Sports West and former N.B.A. player with the L.A. Clippers and Boston Celtics, will speak on April 11th at the Spirituality and Sports Program at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center on the campus of USC. Mike Smith is an active member of the Latter Day Saints Church and a former star at BYU. A member of the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame, Mike is BYU's all-time leader in rebounds and third in points scored.
In the event titled "A conversation with Mike Smith", the discussion will be about ethics in sports, faith and family, and Mike's transition from professional athlete to sports broadcaster. USC's Dean of Religious Life, Varun Soni, will moderate the conversation. The event is free and open to the public.
The April 11th Spirituality and Sports event is a program by USC's Office of Religious Life which explores the spiritual dimensions of sports including the transformative powers of organized sports to the ritual, pilgrimage, and community orientations that organized sports share with organized religions. This program hosts discussions with Olympic athletes, sports stars, and USC Trojan legends in order to uncover the rich layers of meaning, purpose, and identity that sports imparts to its practitioners. Previous speakers include Matt Leinart, Ryan Khalil, Wes Parker, Louis Zamperini, Peter Vidmar, and John Naybor.
