New Technology is Changing Homeowner's Expectations of Service and Quality

As the technology of equipment has changed so has the role of heating and cooling service companies.

2011-04-07
WESTFIELD, IN, April 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) "Energy-efficiency," "cost savings," and "green" are phrases that are seeing a lot of action these days. With concerns of an energy shortage, rising energy costs and the average homeowner's budget shrinking, it's no wonder. The heating and cooling industry is responding to these concerns by developing new innovative, energy-efficient equipment, designed to perform better, decrease energy consumption and lower utility bills, all while providing improved home comfort. To keep up with this new technology, service companies need to be educated on the latest and greatest. A.J. Perri, a local New Jersey heating, cooling and plumbing company, is standing out in the crowd, delivering state-of-the-art products from companies, like Carrier, Aprilaire and Navian to name a few, backed by highly trained technicians.

As the technology of the equipment has changed so has the role of a heating and cooling service company. No longer are they called only for installation and/or maintenance of a system, they're now important resources for homeowners as well.

Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J. Perri states, "We like to think of ourselves as the experts of the heating, cooling and plumbing industry. We want to be able to provide innovative products to meet our customers' needs, offer the best installation and maintenance services, as well as be a resource for homeowners to turn to with their questions." Perri says they've even established an "Ask An Expert" section on their website to offer homeowners a place to voice any questions they may have. Homeowners are able to send an email and can expect a reply back within 24 hours.

One of the innovative products on the market today is the new Carrier Infinity Heating/Cooling System. Products like this were developed to meet the "energy-efficiency", "cost saving" and "green" needs of homeowners. This group of products is designed to control temperatures, humidity and air quality while continually monitoring a home's comfort levels, and automatically adjusting for maximum efficiency and performance.

But along with this new technology comes the challenge of keeping technicians properly trained and educated. Heating and cooling systems are typically the most expensive equipment in most homes and according to the EPA over half of the energy used in the average U.S. home comes from heating and cooling. Hence, heating and cooling technicians play a very important role. They are responsible for the equipment that controls the temperature, humidity and total air quality in homes. A technician must also be versed in mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches. In addition they maintain, diagnose, and correct problems throughout the entire system using special tools and test equipment. It's important to have a qualified technician to install, maintain, and recommend options when it's time for replacement.

Perri states, "Just being licensed isn't enough for today's technology. In order to keep up with the ever-changing environment in which we work we require our technicians to have a minimum of 180 hours of improvement training each year. This training comes in a variety of ways. For example, companies like Carrier, Navien, Aprilaire, Honeywell, Fujitsu and many more provide training at our facility on all new products and cutting-edge industry improvements. Technicians are also required to stay current in their field by taking continuing education courses. In addition, we have weekly meetings for all our technicians that cover a variety of topics, including: upcoming technology, communication, and customer relations, just to name a few. And from day one on the job, all of our employees are educated on the importance of our 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee."
