Park Inn Hotels Celebrates an Evening of Malaysian Food and Dancing at the Park Inn Hotel in York

Park Inn Hotels and Malaysian-born chef Jennie Cook join forces at the Park Inn hotel in York on behalf of the Malaysian Kitchen campaign to raise awareness of indigenous food and produce in the UK.

2011-04-10
YORK, ENGLAND, April 10, 2011 (Press-News.org) Park Inn Hotels recently hosted an evening of Malaysian food and dancing at the Park Inn in central York to celebrate Malaysian Kitchen, a promotional campaign funded by the Malaysian government to promote indigenous food and produce in the UK, as well as Malaysian restaurants.

The event at the prestigious York hotel was organised by Malaysian-born York chef Jennie Cook, who has held similar events in other cities around the country in recent months and is planning a series of videos, to be released on YouTube, on Malaysian cuisine.

VIP guests on the night were treated to a three-course meal and traditional Malaysian entertainment courtesy of dancers from London and Bradford. The menu comprised of satay chicken, beef rendang and a Malaysian take on sago pudding. Jennie Cook chose the dishes for the evening because she felt that they were typical of the food she enjoyed during her childhood in Malaysia.

Jennie said: "They were typical Malaysian dishes. They are our signature dishes and I wanted to put these three popular ones into one menu." Commenting on the success of the evening, Jennie added, "I think it went really well, a lot of people told me they had a good time. A lot of people had not tried Malaysian food before and they thought it was really good."

Jennie's menu proved so popular that the Park Inn Hotel has decided to add her dishes to its specials menu - one of the aims of the Malaysian Kitchen campaign is to encourage hotels and restaurants to put at least one or two Malaysian dishes on their menus.

His Excellency Datuk Zakaria Sulong, The Malaysian High Commissioner to Britain, was also in attendance at the Park Inn Hotel in York for the event, following other engagements promoting Malaysian Kitchen Week, which His Excellency launched in September in Selfridges of London.
