Pets Best Insurance Names Dr. Tammy Craig First Winner in "My Vet's the Best" Contest

The pet insurance company announces its first round of winners in a year-long contest created to recognize and reward the passion, innovation and talents of veterinarians across the U.S.

2011-04-18
BOISE, ID, April 18, 2011 (Press-News.org) When Carol Matthews discovered a severely injured dog lying in a ditch late one night, the first person she called was her long-time veterinarian, Dr. Tammy Craig of TLC Veterinary Care in Hastings, NE.

Although technically off-the-clock, Dr. Craig worked into the wee hours of the night to treat the severely malnourished Great Pyrenees that was thought to have been thrown from the back of a vehicle. The dog now lives with Matthews, and has been named Annabelle.

Matthews said when she first heard about the pet insurance company's "My Vet's the Best" contest she knew right away she had to nominate her veterinarian.

"Dr. Craig will do whatever she can to exhaust every avenue of treatment for a beloved pet," Matthews said. "She extends this same consideration to strays."

Upon hearing she won the title of "Best Vet" and a $500 prize to help with the cost of treating strays or for clients who can't afford treatment, Dr. Craig was overwhelmed with gratitude.

"I'm at a loss for words. What an honor," Dr. Craig said. "I feel sometimes that pets are there for us unconditionally and I feel we need to be there for them in the same way. We help whoever we can in any way we can."

Matthews said aside from house pets and strays, Dr. Craig also helps any animals the wildlife rescue brings to her.

"I've never known her to turn away an animal in need," Matthews said. "Sometimes she does lose money, but she continues to give people [and animals] opportunities."

Pets Best Insurance will choose a winner each quarter through December 31, 2011. For more information about Pets Best Insurance visit www.petsbest.com.

While something as simple as a loaf of bread by itself may not seem expensive, but when you spend three to four dollars a loaf it does add up. A family unit who has both parents working out of the home packing their own lunch will use two or three loaves of bread a week. Yes all those packing their own lunch are saving a lot of money, but cutting the ingredient cost takes it a big step further. Everybody ...
