About the Presenter: Dr. Hayley Burgess is the Director of Performance Improvement, Measures, Standards, and Practices for the Texas Medical Institute of Technology (TMIT). As the team leader at TMIT, Burgess coordinates the updates to the National Quality Forum (NQF) Safe Practices for Better Healthcare. She also plays an instrumental role in the development and management of the Leapfrog Safe Practices Program supported by TMIT. Burgess was previously Director of Medication Use and Safety for the HCA Corporate Clinical Services Group where she created and implemented patient safety programs and initiatives for approximately 170 hospitals and 80 outpatient surgery centers owned or operated by the Hospital Corporation of America.
Her most recent research involvement was as the co-investigator for a 60 hospital collaborative to improve critical care services and prevent healthcare associated infections, funded by AHRQ and in partnership with Vanderbilt University. Burgess received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She completed a post-doctoral residency and clinical science research fellowship in pharmacoeconomic psychopharmacology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
