SAN DIEGO, CA, April 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Throughout the ages, artists have poured their hearts, souls and emotions into their work, whether their creative medium has been a pen, a paintbrush or a stage. In this century, creative individuals who also happen to be suffering from infertility have found ways to express their feelings artistically through outlets like books, blogs, graphic design and stand-up comedy.
On the next episode of The Surrogacy Lawyer: Your Guide to IVF and Third Party Family Building, Theresa Erickson, Esq., will discuss humor and creativity as part of the infertility experience with Phoebe Potts, creator of Good Eggs, and Lori Shandle-Fox, author of the upcoming book Laughing is Conceivable. The show will air on Thursday, April 21 at 11AM PST/2PM EST on Voice America.
Lori Shandle-Fox is a humor writer whose material has appeared in prestigious publications such as The Washington Post and Newsday, as well as for National Public Radio. For twelve years, she was a professional stand-up comic. In her daily humor blog and upcoming book, Laughing IS Conceivable, (http://laughingisconceivable.com) Lori uses her own struggles with infertility and treatments to de-stress infertility sufferers, their families and medical teams. Phoebe Potts grew up in Brooklyn and then in Martha's Vineyard. A graduate of Smith College, she received her MFA from the Maine College of Art in Portland. She lives with her husband, artist Jeffrey Marshall, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Her comic book memoir, Good Eggs, (www,phoebepotts.com) has received critical acclaim for its distinctive style and refreshing viewpoint.
"Laughter and creativity are common threads that can help heal emotional wounds caused by physical conditions like infertility," says Attorney Erickson. "Today's guests each have found unique creative expressions to de-stress the shame, secrecy and pain of infertility. In the process, they are helping others lighten its burden."
