LateRooms.com - See Tricky Live in Barcelona

Barcelona's Bikini venue will welcome Tricky, a pioneer of UK dance music, on May 5th.

2011-04-21
BARCELONA, SPAIN, April 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Tricky is due to perform at Bikini in Barcelona next month.

The Bristol-born musician, known for a dark and complex sound that fuses elements of hip-hop, reggae and soul with his half-whispered vocals, will play the Catalan venue on Thursday May 5th.

Having returned to the spotlight in September last year with his ninth studio album Mixed Race, Tricky remains one of the UK's most idiosyncratic and unpredictable artists.

He emerged in the early 1990s through his work with Massive Attack, a collective that formed amid the Bristol club scene and went on to establish a new genre of dance music known as trip-hop.

Tricky contributed to several songs on the group's acclaimed albums Blue Lines and Protection, but found fame in his own right when his solo LP Maxinquaye was released in 1995.

Featuring a number of collaborations with young vocalist Martina Topley-Bird, his then-girlfriend, the album was a major success and received a nomination for the Mercury Prize.

Although some of Tricky's subsequent releases were less well-received by critics, the artist has maintained his fiercely independent stance and desire for creative exploration throughout his career.

Tickets for his show in Barcelona are priced at EUR30 (GBP26.40) plus booking fee, with the music due to begin at 21:30 local time.

Fans seeking cheap hotels in Barcelona will find a large selection of accommodation at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Hotel Barbara Barcelona.
