LateRooms.com - Berlin's O2 World to Welcome Yusuf Islam

Yusuf Islam will return to Berlin for a live performance at the O2 World next month.

2011-04-21
BERLIN, GERMANY, April 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Yusuf Islam is set to perform in Berlin as part of his first European tour in more than 36 years.

The singer-songwriter and humanitarian formerly known as Cat Stevens will play at the German capital's O2 World on Saturday May 14th.

Born in London, Yusuf famously left the music industry behind in the late 1970s after becoming a high-profile convert to Islam and changing his name.

He auctioned off all his guitars for charity and devoted himself to philanthropic causes in the Muslim community for many years, but gradually resumed his musical activities in the 1990s.

The most recent album from the performer was 2009's Roadsinger, his second mainstream release as Yusuf Islam. The LP was praised by critics for bringing fresh life to the familiar folk-rock sounds of his previous records.

In a statement on his official website, Yusuf explained why he chose to return to music after his prolonged absence from the spotlight.

"The language of song is simply the best way to communicate the powerful winds of change which brought me to where I am today and the love for peace still passing through my heart," he said.

"I feel gifted to have that ability still within me."

As Cat Stevens, the musician released seminal albums such as Tea for the Tillerman (1970) and 1971's Teaser and the Firecat.

These two records contain many of his most celebrated songs, including Father and Son, Wild World, Moonshadow and Peace Train.

Tickets for the O2 World concert are available online, priced between EUR66.30 and EUR115.05 (GBP58.50 and GBP101.60). The show is due to get underway at 20:00 local time.
