Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure Appoints Its First Hispanic President

Grace C. Lopez, a legal administrator with the law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, has been appointed board president of the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

MIAMI, FL, April 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Lopez, who was born in Havana, Cuba, is the first Hispanic to be voted president in the affiliate's 15 year history. She has been a board member for the past six years, most recently serving as the governance chair. Lopez will be assuming the role immediately for two years.

"Personal fulfillment for me is when I am able to make a difference in our community by helping others who are less fortunate," said Lopez. "As a child I depended on non-profit support and this is why charitable work is so important to me. Being involved with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate has afforded me the opportunity to give back to the same community that supported me."

Over the years Lopez has lent her time and efforts to numerous community groups among them, the South Florida Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators where she has served as president and is currently the charity committee chair.

On top of her many accomplishments, she has been recognized in Sterling's Who's Who and most recently by Cambridge Who's Who amongst Executive and Professional Women. In addition, she was named "Volunteer of the Year" by the Association of Legal Administrator's Region 2 in 2009.

Lopez is also an adjunct professor at Florida International University in the Legal Studies Institute. She is a talented legal professional with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of financial management, human resources and operations management among others. She is currently obtaining a master's degree in law firm management and a certification in Legal Lean Six Sigma at The George Washington University. She will graduate next month. Lopez holds a bachelor's degree from Barry University.
