ANN ARBOR, MI, April 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dr. Pramit Malhotra (www.annarborplasticsurgery.com), specializing in plastic surgery in Ann Arbor, recently became one of only a handful of Michigan plastic surgeons to offer the CoolSculpting procedure by ZELTIQ . This nonsurgical body contouring technology was recently approved by the FDA for fat layer reduction of the flanks and abdomen. It uses controlled cooling to destroy fat cells without surgery, pain or downtime.
"I am very excited to be among the first wave of board-certified plastic surgeons offering this proven procedure," says Dr. Malhotra. "Although I still offer liposuction at my Michigan practice, I am glad to provide a nonsurgical alternative for those who are good candidates."
CoolSculpting is specifically designed to treat the midsection, commonly referred to as "love handles," "bra bulges" or a "muffin top." It is well suited for women and men who would like a moderate reduction in the stubborn fat in this area. According to the manufacturer, patients can expect to see a 20% reduction of fat in the treated area after one treatment, with possible further reduction with repeated treatments.
Dr. Malhotra is quick to point out that CoolSculpting is not for everyone. "This procedure is not for the patient who needs more extensive body contouring, such as a tummy tuck in Michigan. Patients who come to my practice with sagging skin and muscle laxity of the abdomen may still benefit from CoolSculpting, but they are likely to need a surgical procedure as well."
The procedure involves applying controlled cooling to the target areas in order to freeze and destroy fat cells. Since these cells freeze at a higher temperature than surrounding tissue, the treatment is safe and relatively painless. "Most of my patients have been pleasantly surprised," comments Dr. Malhotra. "They are able to read, text, or simply relax during their procedure with minimal discomfort." After treatment, the destroyed fat cells are naturally eliminated by the body over the course of several weeks.
Dr. Pramit Malhotra (www.annarborplasticsurgery.com) is board-certified in plastic surgery as well as otolaryngology. He received his Medical Degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine. He has been recognized as one of Real Self's Top Doctors for a variety of different procedures. Dr. Malhotra specializes in surgical and non-surgical treatments for the face, breast and body, including breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, mini-facelift and rhinoplasty. He has offices in both Jackson and Ann Arbor, Michigan to serve patients from all over the state.
