BURKE, VA, April 28, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dan Verton, Producer and Founder of Homeland Security Television (www.hstvchannel.com), today announced his firm is launching the inaugural HSTV Ideas for a Secure Tomorrow awards - a video competition that seeks the best ideas for improving security at both the local and national level. The HSTV IDEAS competition (www.hstvchannel.com/contest) is open to Amateur Videographers, including high school and college students, and the winners will be announced on September 12, 2011.
"We wanted to do something special to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11," explained Verton. "But we didn't want to only relive that horrible day... we wanted to also look toward the future with an innovative approach to finding solutions to the security challenges that are still out there. And in doing so, we can honor the heroes of 9/11 by finding ideas to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again."
HSTV's Ideas for a Secure Tomorrow will honor the very best video productions that promote innovative, cutting-edge ideas and solutions to challenging security problems facing America. From security issues facing your local community to national and international challenges, if you're an amateur videographer and filmmaker with a desire to contribute to the safety and security of our world, HSTV wants to see your work.
"We're tapping into a large community of creative minds and asking them to use that creativity to identify ways to make our communities and country safer," said Verton. "There are good ideas out there that never see the light of day because they never get communicated to the decisionmakers - we're providing that connection," said Verton. "We're going to raise the profile of these ideas with the help of some great videographers and storytellers."
All entries are due by August 1, 2011, and must be no longer than 10 minutes in length. The entries will be judged by a prestigious panel of professionals from the Homeland Security field, including law enforcement, homeland security, and strategic communications subject matter experts.
