SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Leave it to a creative teacher to implement project-based learning in her classroom and involve her class in a philanthropic mission while inspiring her students to learn finance using innovative curriculum from The BizWorld Foundation.
Ms. Jennifer Bruzzone, 6th grade teacher states, "Teaching BizWorld will rank in my top 5 experiences of being a teacher. The program is easy to use, exciting to teach and allows my students to learn in a way that they have never done before. My students constantly beg me to teach BizWorld and are excited every time it's on the schedule. To be able to give students a learning experience that is fun, educational and applicable to their real life has been an amazing experience as a teacher."
Principal Teresa Anthony notes, "project-based learning gives our faculty new ways to teach basic core academics in a way that the children can apply in real time. The children gain a greater understanding of why they need to learn; why math, English and communication skills are so important."
The success of the program really hit home for Ms. Bruzzone when she and her class were on a recent weeklong outdoor education trip and one student commented, "Do you know what I miss about being home? BizWorld!"
Catherine Hutton Markwell, CEO of The BizWorld Foundation, says, "Understanding business at a young age has inspired these children to give back to their community, and we hope more educators continue to adapt BizWorld's curricula for opportunities in philanthropy."
Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is a Catholic Pre K - 8 elementary School of the Archdiocese of San Francisco educating the children of the parish, Redwood City and beyond. Since its beginning at the corner of Brewster and El Camino Streets, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School has grown from a student body of 55 students and 5 teaching nuns to an average student body of 290 and 16 faculty members.
