LAKE ARROWHEAD, CA, April 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) Lake Arrowhead Village and the Village Merchants Association are proud to announce the lineup for the FREE 2011 Lake Arrowhead Village Summer Concert Series to be held weekends May 13-September 5, 2011 on Center Stage. Featuring music from virtually every genre, the concerts will be held on Friday and Saturday nights at 6:30 p.m. as well as Sundays and Mondays during long holiday weekends.
Underwritten by the Lake Arrowhead Village and the Village Merchants Association, Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., KOLA 99.9 FM, the Rim of the World Historical Society and Ontario Reign, the concert lineup features popular solo artists such as Leif Garrett and Antonio Pontarelli and renowned groups like The English Beat, Ambrosia, Venice, Naked Eyes, Spazmatics, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, the Jay Blues Band and Martha Davis & the Motels.
Talented tribute bands will include Dead Man's Party, featuring the music of Oingo Boingo; a Journey tribute band called Lights, Eagles' tribute Desperado; Pink Floyd tribute Which One's Pink; and an Aerosmith Tribute band, Aeromyth.
"The caliber of bands and solo artists who will perform this summer on Center Stage is remarkable," says Director of Marketing for the Lake Arrowhead Village. "This year's lineup includes artists who have topped the Billboard Charts, won hundreds of awards and thrilled audiences around the world.
While festival seating for the concerts is free, tables can be reserved for $100 (for a full table/which seats up to 10) or $50 (for a half table, which seats up to 4). Brief Bios on a Few of the Headliners
The English Beat—Saturday, May 28
Formed in the working class suburbs of industrial Birmingham in England in 1978, The Beat rose at a time of high unemployment and social upheaval. From the outset, this exciting group offered messages of hope and peace with an insight into sociopolitical topics would later see them heralded as forerunners of the whole 2-Tone music movement known as SKA.
Their first release was an infectious cover of Smokey Robinson's 'Tears of a Clown,' was an effortless fusion of Ska, Punk, Pop, Soul and Reggae, which turned them into an international overnight success. Further hit singles from that freshman album included Mirror in the Bathroom, Can't Get Used to Losing You, Hands Off... She's Mine, and 'Best Friend. Having performed sold out shows across the globe; the band has shared the stage with The Clash, The Police, REM, Talking Heads, The Pretenders and The Specials.
Naked Eyes—Monday, May 30
Performing early on in the pubs of Bath, England, Pete Byrne was one of the synth-pop pioneers. He and his band mate Rob Fisher shared a love for the music of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. So they started Naked Eyes. Almost immediately, the band signed to EMI and began recording at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Their hit song, "Always Something There To Remind Me," immediately exploded into the Top Ten, followed by the self-penned "Promises, Promises" and "When The Lights Go Out." The back to back-to-back hits resulted in massive US radio airplay and their almost constant presence on MTV, often sporting pajamas.
Antonio Pontarelli—Saturday, July 23
An award-winning musician, Antonio Pontarelli gets audiences on their feet with his engaging electric violin rock performances. Debuting at Carnegie Hall in 2010, the gifted rock singer-songwriter and bow-wielding wunderkind connects classical roots with the pulse of modern day music, delighting audiences from every generation.
The University of Southern California senior honors student began his career at age three by winning the Music Heritage String Competition, which was his first of 42 national and international music awards. His lengthy list of laurels—as both musician and songwriter— includes being deemed Grand Champion on NBC's "America's Most Talented Kids."
Martha Davis & the Motels—Saturday, August 20
Martha Davis and her band, The Motels, were signed to Capitol Records in 1979, where they recorded six albums. Their self-titled debut was greeted with positive critical reviews in 1979, and exploded in Australia on the strength of the #2 Pop single, Total Control. Subsequent hits included Careful, which went Top 50; All Four One, which included the smash single Only the Lonely; Remember the Nights; Shame; Policy; and Little Robbers, The group dominated the music scene throughout the 1980s and was voted Best Performance at the 1982 American Music Awards.
Capitol has just reissued an expanded and re-mastered edition of the legendary All Four One album, which contains previously unreleased bonus tracks. In 2000, look for The Motels Anthology, a first ever double disk of rarities, b-sides, soundtrack cuts as well as live performances. Martha Davis recently signed a production deal with DreamWorks SKG and has just written a children's album.
Leif Garrett—Friday, August 26
A celebrated actor and singer, Leif Garrett has starred in more than 60 hit television shows and scores of movies and is a multi-gold and platinum recording artist. One of the most popular teen idols of all time, Garrett graced magazine covers and posters in teenage girls' bedroom walls across the world. He is best known for his albums Runaround Sue, Surfin' USA, and Feel the Need, which included his hit: I Was Made for Dancin'. His latest album, Three Sides Of...., was released in 2007 and includes originals, covers and a remake of his most enduring hit, I Was Made for Dancin'. These days Garrett is concentrating on his acting career and continues to write and record new music.
