CURACAO, August 16, 2010 (Press-News.org) News of poker professional Phil "The Unabomber" Laak's unfortunate ATV accident on August 5th during a post World Series of Poker summer vacation trip in Oregon spread like wild fire across the Internet due to his over 10,000 twitter followers at http://twitter.com/RealPhilLaak.

Meanwhile all at Phil's eponymous site www.unabomberpoker.com the staff is very concerned for their boss' well being. Although not so concerned that they didn't come up with a great promotion to kick Phil while he is down.

To that end they invite all www.unabomberpoker.com players to join Phil in a Unabomber Bounty Freeroll on August 31. The player who knocks Phil out will receive a signed Unabomber Hoodie and of course bragging rights. The receipt of the sweatshirt might be somewhat delayed due to the fact that Laak also broke his writing hand.

Reflecting on his accident Laak notes, "I easily could have lost my eye or had soup for brains. I got lucky, and only have seven broken bones in my arm and 34 stitches around my eye. With Nurse Jennifer taking care of me well, I now have plenty of time for online poker." He added, "While I am definitely battered and bruised physically, my brain is razor sharp. Just try and take me down on August 31st."

In addition to the hoodie winner, the top seven finishers will receive bonus Unabomber Poker/Cake Network frequent player rewards, called gold chips. And new players who join to participate in the tournament will get a 110% first deposit bonus when they sign up at www.unabomberpoker.com.

OnlinePokerNews.org had the scoop on the accident at http://bit.ly/c1d4SH reporting:

"Phil "The Unibomber" Laak, pro poker player, was involved in an unfortunate ATV accident last week and as a result was hospitalized. Laak and fellow poker players, David Wells, Brian Rast, Antonio Esfandiari, and Alec Torelli, along with other friends, were on their way to a camping trip in Oregon when Laak lost control of his ATV. Though the injuries are minor, they included lacerations to his right eye and broken bones.

Esfandiari, who was with Laak in the hospital, told sources, "We were following Dave and Tony on the ATVs and we were keeping up very well. We went over a sand dune, but there was a drop hidden behind it. It could have happened to either of us, honestly. Phil tried to jump off in mid-air, but he ended up landing on his bike. His elbow is broken and his wrist is all jacked up. His eye is also really messed up. Had it been one millimeter off, he'd probably be blind."

Despite the upset though, Laak still found time to update his Twitter page @RealPhilLaak. On August 5th: "Atv accident, massive arm injury and lacerations to eye in Oregon. Life is good." Then later that evening, he posted, "Stitches forthcoming. Could have been worse I'm lucky to be in one piece."

Laak still remains in good spirits. Esfandiari says "he is handling it all very well." He went on to explain that Laak "was even cracking jokes with the police and paramedics who were on the scene. He wants to fly home tonight [Friday], but they aren't sure if they will let him. We might have to drive."

According to his Twitter page @RealPhilLaak, he did make it home and is now in the arms of his girlfriend Jennifer Tilly. His last post on August 7th read: "Jennifer is the best. Cuddling w her is better for the pain then even my perkocet pain medicine.""

Phil Laak is an internationally recognized poker pro, known for his iconic look at the poker table where he wears sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head. He is also a regular on televised poker shows like Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker. His animated personality, banter at the tables and interest in participating in sometimes bizarre propositional bets have also contributed to his renown.
