LateRooms.com - Blues Legend John Mayall to play in Barcelona

Legendary guitarist and songwriter John Mayall is due to perform at Barcelona's Sala Apolo on June 22nd.

2011-05-04
BARCELONA, SPAIN, May 04, 2011 (Press-News.org) Barcelona will welcome John Mayall for a performance at the Sala Apolo this summer.

The pioneering guitarist and songwriter, known as the founder of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, is set to play the last of several Spanish dates in the Catalan capital on Wednesday June 22nd.

Now based in the US, the Macclesfield-born performer has been credited with helping to launch the careers of many great blues musicians from the UK.

In the Bluesbreakers, he played with the likes of Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor during a highly productive period in the late 1960s.

Each guitarist moved on to enjoy stellar careers after their time with the group, prompting Clapton to famously remark that Mayall had overseen "an incredibly great school for musicians".

Now 77, the father of six received an OBE in 2005 and released his latest studio recording Tough just two years ago.

Fans planning to attend Mayall's Barcelona show will find tickets priced at EUR30 (GBP26.60) plus booking fee. The music is due to begin at 21:00 local time.

Concert-goers seeking cheap hotels in Barcelona will find a diverse selection of accommodation at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Hotel Barbara Barcelona.

Why the eye is better than a camera at capturing contrast and faint detail simultaneously

Why the eye is better than a camera at capturing contrast and faint detail simultaneously
2011-05-04
The human eye long ago solved a problem common to both digital and film cameras: how to get good contrast in an image while also capturing faint detail. Nearly 50 years ago, physiologists described the retina's tricks for improving contrast and sharpening edges, but new experiments by University of California, Berkeley, neurobiologists show how the eye achieves this without sacrificing shadow detail. "One of the big success stories, and the first example of information processing by the nervous system, was the discovery that the nerve cells in the eye inhibit their ...

Simple exercise improves lung function in children with CF

2011-05-04
A small Johns Hopkins Children's Center study of children and teens with cystic fibrosis (CF) shows that simple exercise, individually tailored to each patient's preference and lifestyle, can help improve lung function and overall fitness. Frequent lung infections, breathing problems and decreased lung function are the hallmark symptoms of CF, a genetic disorder marked by a disruption in the body's ability to transport chloride in and out of cells that leads to the buildup of thick mucus in the lungs and other organs. Because rigidly structured high-intensity exercise ...
