PLEASANTON, CA, May 04, 2011 (Press-News.org) CloudTran, a provider of transaction processing solutions for the cloud, today announced the availability of its products built on top of the Rackspace Cloud, allowing critical business applications to now take advantage of popular cloud computing techniques. In addition, CloudTran has entered into the Rackspace Hosting (NYSE: RAX) Cloud Tools Program. This solution will dramatically reduce operating costs for these applications while providing a growth path as businesses expand operations.
"Cloud computing" allows an application to use the bundled computational power of many, low-cost computers to perform its work, rather than requiring a single large and expensive mainframe computer. This typically results in lower operating costs and improves bottom line profit for large enterprises. Previous to this announcement, transactional business applications (e.g., eCommerce, invoice processing, inventory management) were unable to fully benefit from cloud computing because technology did not exist to process large volumes of business transactions across all computers in "the cloud." Now, CloudTran is leveraging the Rackspace Cloud to provide an integrated solution, removing this barrier.
"Business-critical applications have special needs for processing large volumes of transactions on a time-sensitive basis," said Tom Henn, CEO and president, CloudTran. "Now these types of applications can run in the industry-leading Rackspace Cloud, reducing operating costs and improving bottom line profit."
"CloudTran is delivering an important ability to the commercial marketplace for processing business-critical transactions across cloud computing resources," said Nishan Sivathasan, director of corporate development at Rackspace. "Large eCommerce websites, enterprise IT, and even SaaS vendors now have the ability to experience even more benefits by using Rackspace and CloudTran for their cloud computing needs."
CloudTran specifically targets their solutions at businesses deploying "Hybrid Clouds," which combine private, dedicated computing resources with those available from publically available cloud resources from Rackspace. As many mainstream IT organizations worry about the security of holding sensitive data in public clouds, the CloudTran solution built on top of the Rackspace Cloud provides a stepping stone approach that allows sensitive data to remain in highly-controlled, dedicated computers, while less-sensitive information can be migrated to public clouds on an as-needed basis. A single, unified computing architecture from CloudTran make this possible in ways that are transparent to IT developers and operations personnel, greatly reducing the complexity of administering such an environment.
About CloudTran
CloudTran is the premiere developer of transaction management software for cloud computing. We make it possible to run mission-critical OLTP applications in public, private, and hybrid clouds by adding ACID transactions to data grids and distributed persistent data stores. Enterprise IT organizations and SaaS software vendors will find CloudTran to be a key requirement in a broad range of applications including ecommerce, supply chain management, ERP, online gaming, web publishing, mobile payment processing, and more.
