The San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center Raises Over $315,000 at Annual Blue Ribbon Luncheon

Dr. Harvey Karp Keynoted and Dr. Moses Grossman Was Honored For Inspiring Generations of People to Take Action Against Child Abuse

2011-05-05
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) On April 7th, 2011, the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (the Center) hosted its 14th Annual Blue Ribbon Luncheon in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The event raised more than $315,000 to benefit the Center's mission of preventing child abuse and neglect, promoting healthy families and the mental health of children. Board members, Darrach Bourke and Heather Rodriguez served as the event chairs and Cheryl Jennings of ABC/7 KGO-TV was the emcee.

With over 450 community members in attendance at the luncheon, supporters were treated to an engaging presentation by Dr. Harvey Karp, author of The Happiest Baby on the Block. Known for his coveted techniques that help parents and caretakers successfully calm and support crying infants and toddlers, Karp showcased his fierce passion and expert knowledge about the well-being of children. In addition, Dr. Moses Grossman was honored for founding the Center and for his influential role in improving the lives of children and families as well as inspiring generations of people to take action against child abuse.

Each year in San Francisco, over 6,000 cases of child abuse are reported. Such abuse not only endangers a child's physical and emotional health, but also affects their development. That is why providing emotional, social and financial support for children and families is so important. Due to the generous gifts and support of the San Francisco community, the Center will be able to continue to make a huge difference in the lives of many Bay Area families.

About the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center

For almost 40 years, the programs of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center have served the community's most vulnerable Bay Area children and families. The San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, the promotion of healthy families and the mental health of children. With direct crisis and intervention programs designed to reduce parental stress, enhance parenting skills and provide comprehensive services for families in need, we provide open-ended support and help families break the cycle of violence. As one of the most comprehensive services providers in San Francisco, we also offer education, training programs and public advocacy for child abuse prevention. In 1998, the Center joined the 25-year histories of the San Francisco Child Abuse Council and TALK Line Family Support Center to form the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center.
