BAYSIDE, NY, May 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) 3- year old Taloni loves helping with "clean up time" and always has a smile on her face. You would never be able to tell the incredible little girl faced a mountain of physical and social challenges due to her medical condition.
Taloni receives intensive rehabilitation and specialized medical care at St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children, one of the region's premier providers of post-acute pediatric care for children with special needs.
With the help of St. Mary's renowned team of doctors, nurses, and therapists, Taloni slowly began to meet her milestones, making incredible gains each and every day.
Taloni is one of the many children chosen as a Grand Marshal to help lead the Walk for St. Mary's Kids and Family Fun Day on Sunday, May 22nd at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY because of her courageous efforts to overcome her disability.
Through innovative therapies and dynamic programs that encourage developmental skills and educational goals, today, Taloni can effectively verbalize her concerns and is now able to communicate with staff members, something she was not able to do before. She has also begun to develop lasting friendships with some of her preschool peers and enjoys socializing and playing with toys and games alongside her friends.
St. Mary's groundbreaking programs and services provide care to over 4,000 children and their families battling complex medical and life-limiting conditions. The annual Walk for St. Mary's kids, gather staff, patients, friends and family to help raise funds & awareness to continue providing care for patients like Taloni.
Walkers will gather at Belmont Park on Sunday, May 22nd to walk for St. Mary's Kids. The day will include the New York AutoFest car show featuring customs, classic, muscles and rarely seen vehicles.
