GLOUCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND, May 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) The work John Lowrie Morrison, one of Scotland's leading contemporary landscape painters, is now available in limited edition, fine art prints at Red Rag Galleries. John's work is a valued addition to a growing range of fine art prints in the Red Rag print portfolio.
John has a distinctive style of landscape painting. He was profoundly influenced by the work of Soutine and Chagall, specifically their use of colour, which emerged in his own work as an optimistic expressionism - the joy of landscape viewed as a result of the interaction of God and man. John paints a landscape as it affects him after a long period of assimilation and contemplation.
John is known particularly for his paintings of the Scottish landscape, normally without figures (such as Blue Boat Lochgair and Room with a Rum View available in the Red Rag portfolio), though he also paints still life (such as Mixed Blooms and Irises, also available in the portfolio).
Nevertheless, John travels extensively, sketching and photographing images of interest. He works mostly in oils (early works were in gouache). He uses a mixed palette where colour is representative of meaning, but he is known for his use of the blue part of the spectrum most particularly, blue becoming a key signature colour in his paintings.
John Lowrie Morrison (JoLoMo) (b. 1948, Glasgow) studied art at the Glasgow School of Art 1967-71 and then trained and practiced as a teacher. He began to paint full time from 1997 though his first solo show was in 1976. He was appointed as a Reader in the Church of Scotland (2002) and initiated the JoLoMo Lloyds TSB awards in 2006 (for new or emerging landscape painters living and working in Scotland). John, with the support of his wife Maureen, works as a Patron of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. He was awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List in 2011. He has been the subject of a number of films and a retrospective book 'John Lowrie Morrison: Retrospective' in 2004. He has exhibited widely in Scotland, the UK and internationally. His work is eminently collectible (his paintings are, for instance, in collections of Madonna and Sting, and the Duke and Duchess of Argyll).
Red Rag Gallery is a leading UK art gallery and specialises in British and Irish contemporary art, sculpture and limited edition prints. Red Rag Gallery represents many leading contemporary artists and sculptors and ships artwork worldwide. Red Rag has galleries in Stow on the Wold and Bath. The galleries are open every day. Opening hours are: 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday; 10am to 4pm, Sunday.

Russian Construction Industry Recovery Continues - PMR
2011-05-13
Over the past year, an increase in activity has been recorded in the residential sector, however, it has mainly been in the form of increased demand for housing and greater competition for land plots being sold. Very few new residential developments were commenced; instead, developers focused on the completion of ongoing projects.
Though they caused great destruction, the wildfires that ravaged parts of Russia in summer 2010 did serve as a boost for the construction industry as new housing was required for the victims of the disaster. In just two months, 2,200 new houses ...
