MADISON, WI, May 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dream Kitchens was honored by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) as a 2011 NKBA Design Competition winner. Dream Kitchen's second-place award for open plan kitchen design was announced at the Design Competition Awards event on Tuesday, April 26 during the NKBA's Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, NV.
The award-winning kitchen was designed for a private residence and was based on the Frank Lloyd Wright style. Essential to the design were two large islands that doubled as seating or workstations; a bar area and a butler pantry that flowed well together; double ovens that enclosed the kitchen from the living area; and a stainless steel hood that can be considered a piece of art on its own.
The design was not without its challenges. "The open design of the kitchen had to flow perfectly with the rest of the living space," said Terri Schmidt who designed the award-winning kitchen. Schmidt continued: "The living area has three distinct rooms with the kitchen in the middle. Clean lines compliment the space and flow beautifully from room to room."
"All of us at Dream Kitchens are very proud of the award," said Schmidt. "Just to be considered for a national award is an honor, especially when you consider the strengths of other designs from around the country."
NKBA sponsored its 2011 Design Competition to offer designers the opportunity to have their best kitchen and bathroom designs acknowledged for their excellence. Dream Kitchens was chosen as an award winner from nearly 500 entries received.
