MADRID, SPAIN, May 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Teatro Real in Madrid is hosting a series of performances of Las Bodas de Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Running from May 30th to June 17th, the show will feature a strong cast including Pietro Spagnoli in the role of Figaro and Annette Dasch as the Condesa de Almaviva.
The production, known as The Marriage of Figaro in English, is one of Mozart's most successful works, with the overture often performed on its own in concerts.
He adapted the story from a play by Pierre Beaumarchais, which was itself originally banned for its subversive nature.
According to the Teatro Real, the comic opera is one of the finest pieces of its type ever written, thanks to the combination of Mozart's genius, strong characters and the libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte.
It was first performed in Vienna in 1786.
Ticket prices for the Madrid show range from EUR6 up to EUR86 (GBP5.20 to GBP74.95) and are available online or at the box office. The action gets started at 19:00 local time each night.
Opera fans can find a huge variety of Madrid hotels at LateRooms.com, such as the Westin Palace Madrid.
