SANTA MARIA, CA, May 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) Principal photography on "The Hunger Games" began on May 19, 2011. According the the Screen Actors Guild, shooting will continue through September 3, 2011. Locations include the North Carolina communities of Hildebran, Shelby, Charlotte, Asheville, and Wilmington among others. Casting for the films extras, stand-ins and photo doubles will continue throughout filming. Some small speaking roles will also be cast as minor script changes occur during the shoot.
Several newcomers have been cast in some of the films lead roles. Director Gary Ross and producer Nina Jacobson have made it known that they were definitely open to casting unknown actors in the film's lead roles. Casting director Debra Zane said that she and her staff have opened every single submission sent in to her Los Angeles office for the principal actor roles. There have been many thousands of submissions from all ends of the world.
If the box office numbers for "The Hunger Games" are big, then expect Lionsgate Entertainment to quickly acquire worldwide distribution rights to film adaptations of the sequels "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay". Shooting on those films would in all likelihood also take place in North Carolina.
"The Hunger Games" is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 23, 2012. Details on how talent can be considered for small speaking roles, extras, stand-ins, and photo doubles throughout filming can be found on the following casting post:
