DUBAI, May 23, 2011 (Press-News.org) The American Hospital Dubai has appointed Dr. Stefan Diez as consultant neurologist at the hospital's campus in Dubai. Dr Diez, a board certified neurologist, joins the existing team of three specialists based in the hospital's Neuroscience Centre of Excellence.
Dr Diez graduated from the medical school (founded in 1477) at the University of Tuebingen in Germany, in 1985. Following his graduation from medical school, he completed his PhD in tropical medicine in 1986 and then worked in psychiatry before deciding to pursue his career in neurology, neurocritical care, clinical neurophysiology and neuroimmunology. He became a Board certified neurologist as well as a Board certified clinical neurophysiologist in 1993, after a residency and specialisation at the Northwest Academic Hospital Frankfurt/Germany.
Dr Diez started his own practice in Calw, Germany in 1994 (affiliated with the acute city hospital which was also a trauma center) which became one of the leading centres for diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis and autoimmune diseases in the region, offering all scientifically proven treatments in neuroimmunology. These treatments include monoclonal antibodies, imunoglobulines and chemotherapy. In 1999, Dr Diez started specializing in BOTOX therapy for blepharospasm, movement disorders, limb spasticity and excessive sweating. BOTOX and MS (multiple sclerosis) therapies have become important subspecialties in his practice, over the last 12 years.
He was a member of the advisory board of the German multiple sclerosis society (Baden-Wuerttemberg) from 2006 until 2010, and has participated in various clinical studies - playing an active role in the emergency treatment of stroke at the acute hospital and trauma center. Dr. Diez is a member of the German neurological society as well as the German society for clinical neurophysiology and functional imaging. His special interests also cover chronic pain and painkiller overuse, nerve-muscle problems and spine related limb dysfunctions (radiculopathies).
