Eurotunnel Le Shuttle's Support for GBP100,000 Charity Campaign is Just Champion

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is supporting a GBP100,000 charitable challenge which is a mix of football and travel and has been inspired by a child's courage in battling adversity.

2011-05-27
MAIDSTONE, ENGLAND, May 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) The cross-Channel operator, which whisks customers and their cars from Folkestone to Calais in just 35 minutes, is official travel partner for The EuroChampsChallenge, which is a celebration of every team that's ever won European football's leading club tournament, The Champions League, and its predecessor, The European Cup.

The team behind the challenge set off by car on Sunday 15 May from Celtic FC in Glasgow and is travelling to the ground of every past winner - covering 7,000 miles, visiting 21 football clubs in 16 countries in just 14 days.

The team is travelling from Folkestone to Calais on 16 May, using Eurotunnel Le Shuttle's premier FlexiPlus service. Following a whistlestop tour of Europe, they are due to make an early morning return trip through the Channel Tunnel on 28 May before heading to Wembley for the 2011 Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona that night.

The fund-raising campaign has been inspired by a remarkable seven-year-old boy, Angus, who was born with a condition called Microtia, meaning he only has one ear, and who has a number of other medical issues. The team, spearheaded by Angus's dad, wants to raise GBP100,000 for two charities that have supported the family - The Sick Kids Friends Foundation in Edinburgh, and Changing Faces, a charity assisting people with physical disfigurement.

"When we heard that the EuroChampsChallenge is all about tackling big challenges through inspiration, determination and teamwork, we knew that we had to get involved in supporting the cause," says Eurotunnel Le Shuttle's Marketing & Sales Director, Harvey Alexander.

"Using the FlexiPlus service we can guarantee that they'll be first on and first off, and on their way quickly and smoothly. Our FlexiPlus customers benefit from flexible travel, priority boarding and have use of an exclusive lounge with free amenities," he adds.

Mark Little, spokesman for EuroChampsChallenge, said: "We are up against the clock with this campaign and every second counts which is why we are so pleased that Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is providing us with the flexible and rapid gateway to Europe that we need if we are to hit our target of covering an average of 500 miles a day."

To learn more about the campaign, and to make a donation, visit www.eurochampschallenge.com.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is the fastest cross-Channel operator by car, with up to four departures an hour. And with no luggage restrictions, quick and easy check-in and boarding, no fuel or baggage supplements, and no credit card booking fees, it's not surprising that more and more people are choosing to travel with the service. The number of cars carried by the operator in the first quarter of 2011 has increased by 7% compared with the first quarter of 2010, up from 373,595 to 399,869.

Hard Years Lead to an Uptick in Bankruptcies

2011-05-27
In response to the steep rise in bankruptcy filings in 2005, changes were made to the bankruptcy code that reversed the trend, at least temporarily. But, pounded by five years of high unemployment and low real estate prices, the number of Americans seeking protection in bankruptcy courts has again reached uncomfortable heights. Although the economy may be recovering, many Americans are still facing the challenges of heaping debt. Some 1.53 million Americans filed cases in bankruptcy court last year. Bankruptcies increased 9 percent in 2010, even surpassing their 2005 ...

Hours-of-Service Rules are Intended to Keep All Safe

2011-05-27
For the most part, the government doesn't make rules, regulations or laws just to feel useful. They usually have specific reasons for doing so. One such reason is safety: safety of workers, safety of the general public, etc. The commercial driving industry abides by rules and regulations, many of which are safety-related. For instance, truck and bus drivers may be limited in the number of hours they can drive, how much weight or the number of passengers they can carry per load, and, like all drivers, how fast they can drive. While these rules and regulations may seem ...

Children are Being Exposed to Unnecessary Radiation

2011-05-27
The most vulnerable of human beings are sometimes the most mistreated. Such is the case with premature infants. In 2007, doctors at State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn discovered that hospital staff repeatedly over-radiated premature babies during X-rays and CT scans. For example, when chest x-rays were ordered for one newborn, he underwent 10 full body X-rays without being covered by a protective shield. The Lack of Standardized Regulation It is the responsibility of each state to set its own regulatory standards for radiological workers. ...

2011-05-27
On May 17, Senate Bill 408 - a controversial overhaul of Florida's property insurance system - became law with Governor Rick Scott's signature. Although Governor Scott promises the bill will result in a more stable, more competitive private insurance market in Florida, critics of the law argue that it may lead to big problems for Florida homeowners. Sinkhole Coverage a Particular Concern One of the more controversial elements of the initial version of the bill was related to mandatory sinkhole coverage. The insurance industry claimed that fraudulent sinkhole claims ...
