One Thousand Ocean hosts American Cancer Society VIP reception

Amore Gala co-chairs Karen Lynne Asher and Jamie Telchin hosted a VIP thank-you reception at One Thousand Ocean in Boca Raton in May 2011

2011-05-29
BOCA RATON, FL, May 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) As a follow up to the successful Amore Gala this spring that raised more than $90,000 for R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids) programs, the co-chairs of the American Cancer Society-South Palm Beach Unit's annual fundraiser recently hosted a VIP thank-you reception. Held in a sprawling penthouse at One Thousand Ocean in Boca Raton, the cocktail party was for sponsors, major donors and Gala Committee members.

Gala co-chairs Karen Asher, owner of Karen Lynne Gallery, and Jamie Telchin, president of development for LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels, expressed their heartfelt gratitude as guests enjoyed an array of delectable hors d'oeuvres, spirits and desserts while admiring the spacious residence and its stunning ocean, inlet and Intracoastal panoramas.

The evening's entertainment featured lively vocals by Ron Langel, whose performance had guests singing along. This was particularly true when one of the guests, two-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Carol Connors from Los Angeles, joined Langel for several duets.

R.O.C.K. programs include R.O.C.K Camp, which provides children with the opportunity to experience the fun and adventure of a summer camp without feeling different from their peers. While in a safe environment, these children enjoy traditional camp activities from canoeing to campfires. To be eligible to attend free of charge, children must be between the ages of 7-16, have received or be in current cancer treatment, and been referred by their pediatric oncologists.

Other related programs include R.O.C.K Families Weekend and R.O.C.K. College Scholarships. Monies raised at the gala and VIP reception will also be put to work locally and in cancer research centers across the country.

The American Cancer Society is the nation's premier, community-based, volunteer health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer by preventing it, saving lives and diminishing suffering through research, education, advocacy and service.
